The Scout Section caters for Scouts aged 12 to 15. Scouts work in small teams called Patrols, made of 6-8 scouts and led by a Patrol Leader and an Assistant Patrol Leader.

The County Shield is the flagship event for Scouts in the County. Check out this page to see past info packs, resource documents and the roll of honour.

Scout National Events

  • Phoenix Challenge – National Scoutcraft Competition for Patrols, held in August. Patrols qualify through the County Shield
  • Crean Challenge – A Challenge taking place over a number of months, consisting of personal challenges, training weekends and self-led hikes, culminating in a week-long expedition to Iceland in February. 32 Scouts nationally are selected to take part each year
  • Mountain Pursuit Challenge – Weekend Mountaineering Challenge for teams of four Scouts and 1 Scouter. Four events are held each year – one in each province.
  • Survivor – Backwoods/Survival challenge for teams of four scouts. Two events are held each year (in Oct/Nov and in April). Three levels – Delta (Beginners), Beta (Intermediate) and Alpha (Advanced)
  • Sionnach Adventure – Weekend Mountaineering Challenge for teams of four Scouts and 1 Scouter. Four events are held each year (Sept & Oct).
  • PEAK – Week-long mountaineering training course for Scouts/Ventures held over the Easter break
  • Patrols in Action – Patrol-based camp held during July
